London, the boisterous
capital city of England, is one of the most historical cities of the world. Its
very name is ancient and can be traced back to the 2nd century. It
contains four World Heritage Sites and other centuries-old places. For this
reason and for the fact that it is one of the world’s leading financial
centers, it has become the world’s most visited city.
London is split into
North and South of the River Thames. North London includes most of the city’s
historical areas such as the East End and West End, and also many of the major
tourist destinations. Here, you will also find the most opulent historical
hotels and the best western hotelsLondon can offer.
Historical buildings
in North London includes: the 16th-century Bruce Castle which is converted to a
museum and now features the history of Haringey; the 19th-century Alexandra
Palace, currently being used for exhibitions, performances and other events;
the London Canal Museum built in 1863 that features the history of England’s
canals; and the Little Angel Theater built in 1961, a children’s puppet theater
that still holds creative and amusing shows for children and adult alike.
You can also pay your
respects to a few of the world’s historical figures. Visit the Highgate
Cemetery located in North London. You’ll find the final resting places of great
authors such as George Eliot and Douglas Adams, and revolutionary socialist
Karl Marx. You’ll be surprised how a stroll through a graveyard can be quite
interesting.
If a Victorian
cemetery and old castles are not enough for a full historical experience, try
taking home a personal piece of history, or at least, something vintage. Visit
Camden passage on a Wednesday or Saturday to browse a full range of vintage
clothes and jewelry, Japanese prints, antique crockery and other rare
collectibles.
If you want to get
something, which is more affordable, check out Princess May Car Boot Sale
during Saturdays at Princess May Primary School. Anyone can set up a booth and
auction or sell their wares. You’ll find a lot of unique and high quality vintage
or antiques pieces that are not overly priced and some even come with a
personal history.
